Despite the unpredictable Belgian weather, we embarked on a leisurely stroll along the pier in Ostend the day before yesterday. The heavy sky looming overhead added a touch of drama to the surroundings, making it a very photogenic setting. As I mentioned yesterday, Ostend's coastline may not boast the pristine beauty of other seaside destinations, but it possesses a certain charm, a je ne sais quoi, that continues to draw us back to Ostend - Ostend, Belgium

Yesterday, we had a little outing with the grandchildren to the Belgian Coast, braving the unpredictable Belgian weather. As we strolled along the Pier of Ostend, I was drawn to the heavy sky looming over the coastline. Yes, Ostend's coastline may lack the traditional allure of pristine sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters, and it has been described as one of the ugliest in the world. But hey, we had fun, and the ever-changing weather treated us to a spectacle of dramatic clouds dancing in the sky. In just one hour, we experienced the whims of nature – rain, sun, threatening clouds, and gusts of wind – Ostend, Belgium
This moderately good image of a person cycling along the Bijlokekaai in Ghent is the outcome of practicing panning. I captured this shot a few weeks ago during one of my extended walks in Ghent - Ghent, Belgium
You don't always have to go far to enjoy a nice walk or the outdoors. This is a photo I took from an observation point during a countryside stroll in the river Schildt region east of Ghent. The weather was far from optimal, and we got caught in a few rain showers, but I believe the dramatic sky adds to the photo's appeal – Berlare, East-Flanders, Belgium
A few months back, I snapped this photo while exploring the International Photobienale in Ostend. If you're not familiar with it, the event showcases images from both national and international photographers at various spots throughout the city. Our journey took us through a part of Ostend that's relatively new to us: Oosteroever. Nestled at the harbor mouth and amidst dunes, Oosteroever is renowned for landmarks like Fort Napoleon and the iconic white-blue lighthouse known as "Lange Nelle." Recently, it's been undergoing a transformation, with renovated quays breathing new life into the district. This revitalization has sparked debate, with some embracing the changes while others remain skeptical. Regardless of where you stand, it's hard to ignore the intriguing photo opportunities presented by some of the newly developed apartments – Oosteroever, Ostend, West Flanders, Belgium
I captured this image at Titisee a vibrant summer destination nestled in the Black Forest, with a name that often brings a smile to English-speaking travelers. The serene blue-green glacial lake, surrounded by dense forest, has been the subject of countless photographs. With this black and white shot, I aimed to offer a unique perspective of this renowned location. Whenever we venture to or through the Black Forest, our preferred accommodation is Parkhotel Adler Hinterzarten, just a stone's throw away from Titisee. Although the peak seasons bring many tourists, we always enjoy a quick stroll along the shores of the lake. If it becomes too crowded, we can always resort to the peaceful woodland trails, which remain pleasantly uncrowded. - Titisee, Black Forest, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
This black and white photograph captures a charming scene of children playing with soap bubbles on a summer evening in Dresden. The setting is the Brühl Terrace, a historic location that was once part of the city's ramparts, built to defend against attacks. There is maybe too much happening in the picture, I believe however that it adds to the charm and interest of the photograph – Dresden, Saxony, Germany.
Is there a market square more quintessentially German than the one in Meissen? This charming old town features cobblestone streets, historic buildings, and a picturesque riverfront. Meissen is renowned for the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory, established in the early 18th century as one of Europe's oldest porcelain factories. During our 2018 Germany vacation, we also explored the Albrechtsburg Castle, a medieval fortress overlooking the Elbe River, and the impressive Gothic-style Meissen Cathedral, dating back to the 13th century. This image serves as a reminder of our visit to this very German charming little town - Meissen, Saxony, Germany
Nearly a month ago, we visited the "Lion's Mound" in Braine-l'Alleud, where I captured a memorable moment in black and white. While browsing through my archives, I stumbled upon another photo from the same day, which, though initially overlooked, now holds its own charm. The monument commemorates the Battle of Waterloo on June 18, 1815, symbolizing Napoleon Bonaparte's final defeat. It features a mound with a majestic lion sculpture and offers panoramic views of the battlefield. Commissioned by King William I of the Netherlands in 1820 and completed in 1826, it marks the spot where the king's son, the Prince of Orange, was wounded - Braine-l'Alleud, Walloon Brabant, Belgium
During our stay in the Black Forest in July 2018, we embarked on a day excursion to a destination highly recommended in every travel guide on Saxony. This photo captures the breathtaking rock formation of the Bastei, a renowned landmark within the Saxon Switzerland National Park. Perched nearly 200 meters above the Elbe River, the Bastei has attracted tourists for over two centuries. In 1824, a wooden bridge was erected to connect several rocks for visitors. This bridge was later replaced in 1851 by the iconic sandstone Bastei Bridge, depicted in the photo as it traverses the rugged landscape towards the remains of the medieval castle, Felsenburg Neurathen. We were truly impressed by the towering pinnacles of the rock formation, creating a wonderland of natural beauty - Bastei, Saxon Switzerland National Park, Saxony, Germany.
