I had been watching the square for quite some time before noticing the scene. Only when she removed her hat did I realise she was a nun — something that immediately gave the image a different meaning in this historic pilgrimage city.

​Rock formations at As Catedrais Beach have been shaped by erosion over thousands of years. During low tide, it becomes possible to walk between the cliffs and explore the textures and patterns left behind in the sand and rock. Although it is a well-known and often busy location, we were lucky with our visit — the season and timing made a real difference. The single person walking across the beach adds a strong sense of scale and helps show the beauty of the landscape.

From Mirador del Fito in Asturias, we looked out over limestone hills and mountain ridges stretching towards the Picos de Europa. Rain showers and short moments of sunlight constantly changed the view, while the moving clouds added extra atmosphere to the landscape.

Officially known as the Cathedral of San Salvador, this Gothic structure dates primarily from the 14th and 15th centuries and is one of Asturias's most famous historic landmarks. Inside, visitors can find the Cámara Santa, dating back to the 9th century, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Monuments of Oviedo and the Kingdom of Asturias. The cathedral also has strong ties to the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage routes. During our visit, we saw many pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela, stopping for a stamp.
