Al Alam Palace: A Ceremonial Landmark in Muscat

During our recent trip to Oman, we didn’t visit the entrance of the Al Alam Palace in Muscat, previously known as the palace of Sultan Qaboos. However, looking back in my archive, I found some shots I took in December 2011 with my Leica M9. If you look at those photos now, you’ll notice the vivid colors—a result of the Leica M9’s CCD sensors made by Kodak. These sensors are known for producing richer colors and a retro look compared to modern CMOS sensors. Interestingly, the Al Alam Palace, one of six royal residences of the Sultan of Oman, has remained unchanged, even with the transition from Sultan Qaboos to his cousin, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq. Built in 1972 during Sultan Qaboos’ reign, the palace features a striking modern design with gold and blue accents. It serves as a ceremonial venue and is flanked by the historic Al Jalali and Al Mirani forts in Muscat’s old town – Muscat, Oman
