Dooneagore Castle Above the Atlantic

On the way into Doolin, Dooneagore Castle immediately catches the eye, towering above the Atlantic coastline. Built in the 16th century, it once served as a navigational marker for sailors. Today, it feels more like a protector of the land, overlooking the green fields, rugged cliffs, and open ocean. From here, you can see the Aran Islands on a clear day and the Cliffs of Moher rising to the south—landmarks that, together with the castle, define this wild corner of County Clare. Just below lies Doolin, a small but lively village, best known for its traditional Irish music and as the gateway to the Aran Islands.
