Visitor’s Digest is my daily photo column. Sometimes it's one picture, other times a set — always with short notes about place, light, timing, or a personal detail. It’s my way of documenting the world around me, from city streets to coastal towns, in a simple and reflective way.

Follow-up from yesterday’s post — halfway through the wadloop to Rottumeroog.

This hike took place in the Wadden Sea, a unique coastal area in the north of the Netherlands. At low tide, parts of the seabed become exposed, allowing people to walk across — an activity known as wadlopen. It's one of the few places in the world where you can hike across the bottom of the sea.

By this point, the most challenging part was behind us. The deep mud had turned into firm, sandy ground, and the walk started to feel more like a beach stroll — still long, but less of a struggle. With the footing easier, I finally had time to slow down, take in the surroundings, and snap a few more photos.

There's something surreal about walking in the middle of the sea, yet not seeing any water around you — just sand, wind, and the endless horizon. The landscape feels almost empty, but not lifeless. You start noticing the patterns in the sand, the shapes left by the tides, and the occasional bird flying overhead.

Being out there, halfway between land and sea, really puts things into perspective — it's humbling, but also peaceful.
