Fort Island: A Historic Landmark Near Ijmuiden

This may not be the best photograph in the world, but I still want to share it on this blog because Fort Island is one of those historical gems not known to many. As you depart from IJmuiden on the ferry, you'll enjoy a magnificent view of the artificial island called Fort Island, constructed in the 19th century as part of the defense system for the entrance to the Amsterdam harbor. This island served as a crucial military stronghold during various periods of conflict, including World War II. Today, it holds UNESCO World Heritage status and is a popular destination for tourists. It can only be visited with a guide on specific days or during special occasions - IJmuiden, North Holland, the Netherlands
