From Protest to Impasse: Ghent Faces Political Uncertainty

Following recent municipal elections in Belgium, the winning alliance, Voor Gent—a coalition of liberals and socialists—announced plans to form a city council with the NVA, a Flemish nationalist party. This sparked protests over several evenings, peaking two nights ago, with 3,000 to 5,000 people gathering to oppose the coalition. Demonstrators raised concerns that the alliance might weaken the green mobility plan and diversity policies, urging a continued partnership with Groen, part of the previous administration.
