From Sacred to Social: A New Chapter for Sint-Annakerk

Today, I'm taking a break from sharing our Ecuador and Galapagos adventures to show you something that caught my eye yesterday in Ghent. I visited the Sint-Annakerk, a 19th-century church known for its unique Round-Arch style, which blends Romanesque, Byzantine, and Gothic elements.

Though consecrated in 1866, the church remained unfinished for years. Now, it's entering a new chapter. Delhaize plans to transform this protected monument into a space with a supermarket, restaurant, and wine bar. Over 3,500 people visited yesterday to see what's to come.

This is part of a broader trend of giving historic buildings new life while preserving their character. By 2027, Sint-Annakerk will become a vibrant community hub where people can shop, dine, and connect, all surrounded by beautiful, historic architecture.
