Looking at The Milkmaid | Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam

We visited the Rijksmuseum to see Ed van der Elsken. Up Close — a fabulous exhibition about someone who, in my opinion, is one of the Netherlands' finest street photographers.

Afterward, we went to see some of the famous Dutch masters. In front of Vermeer's The Milkmaid, the room was packed. Almost everyone held up a phone to take a picture instead of simply looking at the painting. Amid all this attention directed toward the Vermeer, one woman turned away and looked in a completely different direction, adding a little tension to the image.
