Munster’s Fading Charm

Munster is a charming town in the Haut-Rhin department of Alsace, nestled in the Munster Valley, which is part of the Vosges Mountains. Most of you may know the town for its famous smelly Munster cheese. Due to the region’s complex history, there is a mixture of French and German influences in the local culture. Call it France with a German touch. On our first day, we arrived in the late afternoon and decided to take a stroll through the village center. We enjoyed the traditional Alsatian architecture with its half-timbered houses, a style also found in parts of Germany. Unfortunately, many of the houses and buildings seemed to be in decay or at least not well maintained, which added a bittersweet note to our first impressions of the village. We ended our stroll with a beer in a local biergarten—talk about German influences—before heading to the hotel's restaurant for dinner - Munster, Alsace Region, France
