Visitor’s Digest is my daily photo column. Sometimes it's one picture, other times a set — always with short notes about place, light, timing, or a personal detail. It’s my way of documenting the world around me, from city streets to coastal towns, in a simple and reflective way.

During my visit to the "WOLF" exhibition at Sint-Pietersabdij in Ghent, Frederik Buyckx’s work deeply impressed me. Despite knowing that taking pictures of the exhibition might seem cliché, I couldn’t resist capturing some of the stunning images. Running from May 17 to August 18, 2024, the exhibition showcases photographs taken in remote mountain landscapes in Albania, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. These photos explore the beauty and danger of nature, documenting areas where humans and nature coexist. The exhibition features both classic photos and large wall-filling images, making you feel as if you are walking through the landscapes.

Frederik Buyckx has lived in Ghent for years, staying after his photography studies at KASK. Early in his career, he became a successful documentary photographer, winning a World Press Photo Award for his series "Jesus, Make-Up and Football," about life in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. However, he became less interested in media assignments over time.

Questioning the meaning of his work, Buyckx decided to visit a friend in Albania without a specific project in mind. There, he discovered the beauty of the natural environment and a simpler way of life, while also facing the dangers of raw, vast nature. All of this resulted in a great book and this fantastic exhibition.
