November on Ostend's Promenade

On a cold and windy November Wednesday, the usually bustling promenade near Ostend's Casino Kursaal stands nearly deserted, a stark contrast to its lively summer atmosphere. The Casino Kursaal, designed by architect Léon Stynen and inaugurated in 1950, replaced the original building lost during World War II. This modernist structure, with its semi-circular glass wall, was intended to blend harmoniously with the North Sea's expanse. While it stands as a prominent landmark, I find its architectural impact less than captivating. Opposite the casino, the sculpture The Four Elements by Oscar Jespers—symbolizing earth, water, air, and fire—adds a notable feature to the scene. The overall ambiance evokes a sense of detachment, mirroring the desolate surroundings of the day – Ostend, Belgium
