Quito at Night – Rain, Lights & Colonial Charm

After a long but easy flight from Schiphol, Amsterdam, we finally made it to Quito! Our guide picked us up and took us straight to Casa Gangotena, a beautiful historic hotel overlooking Plaza San Francisco in the city's heart. We didn’t waste any time—after a quick freshen-up, we headed to the rooftop bar for a drink and some tapas. Just as we settled in, the rain started, but it only made the view over Plaza San Francisco more magical.

This square is one of the most iconic spots in Quito’s historic district, framed by the stunning San Francisco Church and Convent, with its grand white façade and centuries of history. It’s easy to see why the city was one of the first in the world to be named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978, along with Kraków, Poland. Even in the rain, the place had a special energy—people strolling with umbrellas, lights reflecting on the cobblestone, and those beautiful colonial buildings glowing in the night.
