Reminders of a Wartime Past

In winter, the Belgian coast feels pretty stripped down, with empty boardwalks and quiet beaches. The closed-up merry-go-rounds hint at a summer that’s gone by, while the old bunkers—leftover World War II fortifications—remind us of events that happened more than half a century ago.
