Slea Head and the Blasket Islands – Ireland’s Atlantic Edge

​At the westernmost tip of the Dingle Peninsula, the land ends in rugged cliffs before meeting the Atlantic Ocean. From Slea Head, you can see the Blasket Islands, with Great Blasket on the horizon and smaller islets scattered like stepping stones. 

The Blasket Islands were once home to a small fishing community, renowned for its storytellers and writers who recorded life on the islands in the Irish language. In 1953, the last residents left for the mainland, and since then, the islands have been uninhabited.
