Sunset on Jebel Akhdar: Where Locals and Tourists Meet

The terraced agriculture of Jebel Akhdar (Green Mountain) in Oman is a centuries-old tradition where local communities cultivate crops on mountain slopes using the falaj irrigation system. This traditional method channels water from natural springs to the fields, ensuring a sustainable water supply. The main crops grown here include pomegranates, apricots, walnuts, and roses. The roses, in particular, are highly valued for producing Omani rose water, a renowned local product.

During our stay at the Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort, I captured photos of the valley at sunset and explored the nearby villages of Alar, Alain, and Al Shuraijah. The sunset over the valley was truly special, and I wasn’t the only one enjoying the view. Some locals had set up a small camp on the cliffs, sipping tea and chatting as they watched the sun dip below the horizon—a peaceful and timeless scene on Jebel Akhdar. – Jebel Akhdar, Oman
