Taking a Break at Het Galgenhuisje: A Well-Deserved Pause

After spending a few hours wandering around the Christmas market, we decided it was time for a beer break at Ghent's smallest café, called "Het Galgenhuisje." This cozy spot has a larger outdoor terrace compared to its indoor space, but the service is friendly, and they offer a variety of Belgian beers. You can find this place on Groentenmarkt, right next to the Butcher's Hall. Interestingly, in the past, it used to be a tripe house where people with less means could buy entrails. This was due to hygiene rules that prohibited selling them inside the Butchers' Hall itself. The café's name, however, relates to the rear side of the building, where condemned individuals waited for their sentences to be carried out.
