The Necropolis: Glasgow's City of the Dead

The Necropolis is a historic cemetery located on a hill east of Glasgow Cathedral. This impressive site features a collection of monuments, mausoleums, and sculptures, creating a city of the dead. Among the notable structures is a prominent statue of John Knox, the famous Scottish Reformer, who seems to overlook the cathedral, symbolically guarding the Scots against reverting back to Catholicism. We were told that a few years ago, the cemetery was home to many homeless people and drug addicts, making it unsafe to walk through.
