Urban Serendipity in Magdeburg

​Our first stop on our road trip to the Baltic States was Magdeburg. We chose this stop even though our Michelin Guide didn't highly recommend the city. We wanted to see the Magdeburg hemispheres, which we remembered from our high school physics lessons. The Magdeburg hemispheres are a pair of large copper hemispheres used in a famous 1654 experiment by German scientist Otto von Guericke to demonstrate the power of atmospheric pressure.We were disappointed to discover that the original hemispheres are actually in a museum in Munich, not Magdeburg. This taught us to better prepare for our stops on long road trips. Despite this, we enjoyed our first evening in Magdeburg and had dinner along the river Elbe. While there, I captured a photo of a person crossing the bridge.
