20 May 2021:  Yesterday it was announced that travelling within the EU should be possible this summer, but you will need the so-called the 'Digital Green Certificate', a document that proves you either have developed antibodies against coronavirus, received at least one dose of a corona vaccine or tested negative in a recent PCR test. Also, the member states supported a proposal by the Commission to relax entry restrictions for travellers from non-EU countries who are fully vaccinated with a Covid-19 vaccine authorised in the EU. Travel outside Europe will depend on individual countries, but a vaccination passport is bound to play a role there as well. Net-net, whilst all corona parameters are improving, we’re slowly returning the pre-corona way of living. The total number of COVID-19 patients in our country’s hospitals stands at 1,765. Of these 596 are on intensive care wards. During the week from 10 to 16 May an average of 2,087 people tested positive for coronavirus each day, a further fall of 30% on the previous week. The R-value or reproduction figure is now at 0.86, which means the epidemic continues to shrink. Meanwhile, Ghent is preparing to welcome tourists – Ghent, Belgium.
