23 December 2020: The speed of increase in the number of positive coronavirus test is slowing down23/12/2020 23 December 2020: Update on The Corona Pandemic – The latest figures show a slowing down in the rate of increase in the number of people testing positive for coronavirus, still an average of 2,529 people tested positive for the coronavirus every day over the last week. The data also reported a stagnation in the number of new hospital admissions and a further fall in the number of people with the virus that are dying. It’s probably too early to claim victory but as a minimum these numbers are generating hopes that we are beginning to regain control over the third surge of the coronavirus before it started to eclipse the first and second wave. Yesterday it was also announced that travel between the UK and Belgium will resume on Wednesday under stricter conditions. The ban was brought in amid fears about a new variant of coronavirus that the authorities in the UK say is more infectious that other strains of the virus detected so far. Hoping for continued good news I’m carrying on with my daily corona walks. This lonely man with a face mask feeding the birds in a deserted city center reminded me of the pictures of the desolated landmarks we saw during the first wave of the pandemic – Korenlei, Ghent, Belgium.
