25 January 2021: Mutations are rapidly gaining ground across the country

In the week leading up to 21 January on average 2,050 new cases were diagnosed. The figure is up 1% on the week. It’s the first increase in weeks. Also, the number of hospitalizations is surging again. Virologists estimate that a quarter of the new corona cases in Belgium can now be linked to the catchier UK variant of the virus. With mutation rapidly gaining ground across the country difficult weeks lie ahead of us and facemasks are here to stay for a while – Ghent, Belgium.
