Beyond the Surface: A Glimpse of Poverty and Childhood Resilience in Kathmandu

As we walked back from the Sacred Cremations at Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu, a photograph caught my attention. It showed children playing on a partially constructed dirt road. Indeed, our route took us past humble shacks that fell far below Western standards. Poverty remains a significant concern in Nepal's capital, posing a substantial challenge. Income disparity is evident, with some living in destitution while others enjoy affluence. Unemployment rates are high, perpetuating the cycle of poverty. Communities are confined to the informal economy, limiting their prospects. Affordable housing is scarce, hindering progress in education and healthcare. This photograph served as a reminder that a society's progress is measured by uplifting the marginalised and vulnerable, rather than by monuments – Near Pashupatinath Temple, Kathmandu, Nepal
