Climbing the Mythical Old Man of Storr on the Isle of Skye

While staying at our hotel in Torridon, we made a little excursion to the Isle of Skye. Of course, you cannot visit the Isle of Skye without climbing the Old Man of Storr. This landmark is one of the most famous and photographed spots on the Isle. The big rock stands about 48 meters tall and can be seen from miles away. It's part of a larger area filled with interesting rock formations known as the Trotternish Ridge. The walk up to the Old Man took us about 45 minutes from where we parked, during which we enjoyed amazing views over the water of the Sound of Raasay and back towards the mainland of Scotland. There's also a cool legend about this place. People say the Old Man of Storr was a giant who lived there long ago. When he died, they buried him, but his thumb stuck out of the ground, creating the famous rocky pinnacle we see today – Old Man of Storr, Isle of Sky, Scotland, UK
