Golden Hour Glory at Urquhart Castle

During our trip to Inverness, we couldn't miss the chance to sail on Loch Ness, one of Scotland's most famous and voluminous lakes, renowned worldwide for its legendary monster, "Nessie." Our skipper shared that the lake stretches about 37 kilometers long and reaches depths of over 200 meters at its deepest point. The story of the Loch Ness Monster started in 1933 when a local newspaper reported a sighting of what was described as a "monster fish," "dragon," or "sea serpent." Since then, the tale has been nurtured to draw tourists from all over the world, all eager to spot Nessie. Although we didn't see the monster, the surrounding picturesque scenery was truly impressive. We also saw the ruins of Urquhart Castle from our boat on Loch Ness. The castle's history dates back to at least the 13th century. It played a significant role in the Wars of Scottish Independence in the 14th century, frequently changing hands between the Scots and the English. The castle was a stronghold for the Clan Grant in the 16th and 17th centuries but was largely abandoned by the end of the 17th century.
