Journey Through Mythology: Photographs of Local Dancers and Their Masks in Bhutan

Local dances are a big deal in Bhutan. They're usually performed during religious festivals and ceremonies, and they often involve men wearing fancy masks and costumes. We were super lucky to see some of these dances at the Six Senses resort in Paro, and I even snapped some pics of the performers a couple of hours before their act. The masks are absolutely stunning. They're made out of wood and painted with all kinds of colors and designs that represent different characters from Bhutanese mythology or Buddhist cosmology. Some masks were supposed to be gods like Guru Rinpoche or Mahakala, while others were meant to be creepy demons or evil spirits.
