Morning Refuel: A Highland Pit Stop

This marks the final photograph from my recent journey through Iceland's remote Highlands, an undeniably unique and challenging experience that unfolds with breathtaking natural beauty. Encompassing vast, rugged terrain, including mountains, glaciers, rivers, and volcanic landscapes, the Highlands are primarily accessible via F-roads, unpaved gravel routes that demand a 4x4 vehicle. Many of these roads are open only during the summer months. As you may have observed from my photographs and accompanying descriptions, the weather in the Highlands is notoriously unpredictable, with sudden storms, heavy rain, and even snow occurring during the summer. Additionally, services such as gas stations, restaurants, and accommodations are few and far between. The only gas station I recall encountering during our journey was located at the Highland Center Hrauneyjar, our base for the first half of the trip.
