The Bastei: A Historic Landmark in Saxony's Saxon Switzerland National Park

During our stay in the Black Forest in July 2018, we embarked on a day excursion to a destination highly recommended in every travel guide on Saxony. This photo captures the breathtaking rock formation of the Bastei, a renowned landmark within the Saxon Switzerland National Park. Perched nearly 200 meters above the Elbe River, the Bastei has attracted tourists for over two centuries. In 1824, a wooden bridge was erected to connect several rocks for visitors. This bridge was later replaced in 1851 by the iconic sandstone Bastei Bridge, depicted in the photo as it traverses the rugged landscape towards the remains of the medieval castle, Felsenburg Neurathen. We were truly impressed by the towering pinnacles of the rock formation, creating a wonderland of natural beauty - Bastei, Saxon Switzerland National Park, Saxony, Germany.
