The Lion's Mound: A Tribute to Waterloo's History

Nearly a month ago, we visited the "Lion's Mound" in Braine-l'Alleud, where I captured a memorable moment in black and white. While browsing through my archives, I stumbled upon another photo from the same day, which, though initially overlooked, now holds its own charm. The monument commemorates the Battle of Waterloo on June 18, 1815, symbolizing Napoleon Bonaparte's final defeat. It features a mound with a majestic lion sculpture and offers panoramic views of the battlefield. Commissioned by King William I of the Netherlands in 1820 and completed in 1826, it marks the spot where the king's son, the Prince of Orange, was wounded - Braine-l'Alleud, Walloon Brabant, Belgium
