This picture captures the stunning rock formation of the Bastei, the major landmark of the Saxon Switzerland National Park, located nearly 200m above the Elbe River in Saxony, Germany. The Bastei has been a tourist attraction for over 200 years, and in 1824, a wooden bridge was constructed to link several rocks for the visitors. This bridge was replaced in 1851 by the present Bastei Bridge made of sandstone, which is showcased in the picture as it leads through the rocks to the remnants of the partly reconstructed medieval castle, the Felsenburg Neurathen. The pinnacles of the rock formation create a wonderland of natural beauty that is both awe-inspiring and magical – The Bastei, Saxony, Germany.
