Stepping out of the Fairmont Vierjahreszeiten in Hamburg, during our brief stop en route to Scandinavia, I chanced upon a captivating scene. There, on a weathered bench in front of the hotel, sat a couple, lost in conversation against the backdrop of the Inner Alster. Just when I pushed the button to take the picture, the boy must have felt my presence and turned his head, adding a je ne sais quoi to the photograph. In my quest to capture the charm of this storied lake, countless photographs had fallen short, until now.
