Urban Solitude – Heysel, Brussels, Belgium

​Earlier this week, I had a business dinner in Brussels and decided to arrive a little earlier to visit the exhibition 'I have seen the future' by Ève Cadieux at the Heysel. The Quebecois artist has taken over a sphere of the Atomium to present her vision of the Universal Exhibitions that have left their mark on both North America and Europe. For those unfamiliar with Belgium or the younger generation, it's interesting to note that the Atomium was built for the 'Universal Exhibition' held in 1958. The structure represents an iron crystal magnified 165 billion times. While I wasn’t overly impressed with the photographs, the trip by metro to the Heysel allowed me to start working on a small photographic project I’m currently exploring. The working title is 'Urban Solitude,' and the theme focuses on human isolation within densely populated urban settings.
