The Danube flows through several countries, including Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine, before emptying into the Black Sea. On our cruise from Passau to Budapest, we arrived in Vienna late morning on the second day of our voyage. In Vienna, unlike the Donau Canal, the river doesn't flow through the central part of the city but runs through the northern part, forming the boundary of the historical city center and the more modern business district. In this early morning photograph taken from the Handelskai Cruise Terminal in Vienna, you can see the skyline of the business district also known as Donau City district. While Vienna may not be renowned for skyscrapers like some other global cities, this part of the city boasts several notable high-rise buildings. These include DC Towers 1 and 2, with DC Tower 1 standing as Austria's tallest skyscraper at 220 meters. The Andromeda Tower is another prominent office building in Donau City, offering panoramic views. You'll also find the Vienna Twin Towers dedicated to corporate offices in this district. Near the Danube River, the Millennium Tower stands out with shopping facilities, offices, and a fitness center. Donau City is also home to the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) complex. While not a traditional skyscraper, this building stands as a modern symbol of diplomacy and administration within Donau City. This skyline beautifully showcases Vienna's contemporary side alongside its rich historical heritage, as captured during our journey along the Danube – Handelskai, Vienna, Austria.
